| I have researched and prepared
a tour of Jane Austen country, which is proving popular. This tour is based on 2 nights in
Bath, and a possible third night in Southampton. Day 1 Collect from airport or London hotel. The Vyne nr.
Basingstoke. Steventon, where JA spent her first 25 years. The neighbouring villages Deane
and Ashe, source of the River Test. On tiny lanes down the Test valley to Stockbridge. On
to Bath overnight.
Day 2 A walking day in
Bath. On a gentle circular walk we see all the main sights of Bath and the places relating
to JA's life and novels. Visits to the Assembly Rooms, Museum of Costume and the JA
Centre, and the Roman Baths followed by tea in The Pump Rooms. A fascinating day after
which you will understand and remember Bath.
Day 3 Past Stonehenge
(possible visit) to the village of Chawton, the JA House museum. Lunch in the local pub
opposite. Winchester to see the house where JA died and her grave in the cathedral. Return
to London, or if taking Day 4 to Southampton overnight.
Day 4 Stay overnight in The
Dolphin, where JA attended dances. Tour of mediaeval Southampton and town walls. Return to
London.
There is a 50 page booklet on the Towns and
Villages of Jane Austen's life, and the part played by Bath in her life and novels.
