Over the last 10 years, the most popular city to visit is Bath. Here I like to stay at:
Marlborough House Marlborough House is a small private hotel in the town centre of Bath. It is an end of terrace Victorian house in stone typical of the town. The house has been tastefully modernised with high quality fittings and period furniture. All the bedrooms are individually furnished and some have a four poster bed. All preparations are organic and the cooking is vegetarian, with imaginative breakfast menus. Rooms have fresh flowers, coffee and tisanes, biscuits and sherry, and drinks including organic beer are served in the dining room, which is open to the kitchen where breakfast is prepare to order. Gentle jazz plays all day, and life in the house is relaxed, so don't expect breakfast before 9 am. The Royal Crescent is just up the hill through the park which is above the house, and due East is Queen Square, with the main centre of Bath just beyond, a total of 10 minutes walk. There is a list of recommended restaurants for the evening. This comfortable and relaxing retreat combines the best of the traditional and the new in a peaceful but central location. Now owned and run by Peter who is keeping up the traditions of this 4 star house. ______________________________________
Here are 3 country house hotels that I can thoroughly recommend. They are independently owned hotels, each situated in different parts of the English countryside, set in their own parkland, and run along the lines of a traditional country house with excellent personal service and food.
Llangoed Hall The original home of the first Welsh parliament, some of the Hall dates from the 17th century. Set in the Upper Wye valley, it is now a luxurious hotel surrounded by wonderful countryside and mountains. Owner Sir Bernard Ashley has re-created the atmosphere of an Edwardian house party. 4 stars 3 rosettes.

	Ettington Park This house is Victorian with olden styling. It is set in its own parkland with a 12^th century chapel, and is grade 1 listed. The house contains much exotic detail and is most romantic and extremely comfortable. It has been in the same Irish ownership for the last 900 years. This is an ideal location for touring The Cotswolds, Shakespeare's Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick Castle. 4 stars 1 rosette

Stapleford Park This house is the epitome of Edwardian country opulence with sumptuous public rooms and every bedroom uniquely styled. Owner Peter de Savary is a frequent visitor. The gardens overlook 500 acres of parkland and woods and lake laid out by Capability Brown. Set in the middle of the Leicestershire countryside, Lincoln Cathedral and Castle can be toured in a day from here. 4 stars 2 rosettes.
