Invasion Beaches Tours In Normandy

A tour can be planned to visit the Normandy Landing Beaches. For visiting American clients, this could be a few days as part of a visit to England, or a tour into other parts of France, including a visit to Paris.

Your tour will start with a crossing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg or Le Harve on the ferry. The sailing time is 51/2 hours, plus 1 hour check-in, 1/2 hour to disembark. French time is 1 hour ahead of ours.

Please allow 3 days for this tour and the crossings.

In Portsmouth we can visit the D-Day Museum to Operation Overlord in Southsea. This has a 15 minute film depicting the build up of forces in England and the launch of the invasion, and a large exhibition of artefacts and life at that time. It also houses a huge tapestry picturing the preparation and invasion.

Portsmouth is the Naval Heritage Area in the old Royal Dockyard, where you can visit HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and The Mary Rose, and the Royal Naval Museum. There are boat trips round the harbour to view the warships that are in the harbour at the time.

Close by is the Royal Marines Museum at Eastney.

After crossing to France, the Invasion Beaches can be visited from the north going southwards from Cherbourg, or northwards from Le Harve.

The principal sights are the beaches themselves, including views of the remains of one Mulberry harbour. All along the way are many memorials and cemeteries. Principal places to visit are the Museum at Utah Beach, The Airborne Museum in St. Mare Eglise, The remains of the defensive battery at Point de Hoc and the U S Cemetery at St. Laurent, Omaha Beach and Pegasus Bridge.

I have Major Holt's Battlefield Guide to the Landing Beaches, and it lists over 300 monuments, memorials, museums and plaques in Normandy, with detailed maps of American and British landings. From this we can find almost any individual tribute or site.

There is good value accommodation to be had in Ibis Hotels in Chergourg, Deauville, Caen and Le Harve, and the towns of Bayeau and St. Lo can be visited.

Each tour is individually planned, and can either return to England or proceed on into France, including visiting Paris, Rouen, or Normandy and Ste. Mont Michelle.

Please contact me with details of the tour that you would like to take.
